Installer Modes
Candidate Managed Runtime mode semantics for a future public installation flow.
This page is candidate documentation for publication pending. These mode names describe a candidate Managed Runtime; they do not establish that an installer, a plugin directory, or any mode has been publicly released.
Candidate modes
- Full — the agent plus the complete candidate first-party plugin set. On supported Linux and macOS Java Full installations, it also includes the corresponding managed fx component.
- Thin — the agent plus the same candidate first-party plugin set, but no managed fx component. On supported systems, the managed fx component can be explicitly Installed or Repaired when that action is offered.
- Lite — the agent and common files only: no optional plugin JARs and no managed fx component.
Platform conditions
Windows Java Full is not offered. Windows Java Thin can install the candidate plugin set, but using the related capability requires you to provide a trusted fx executable yourself. A mode label alone does not guarantee host support, a particular plugin, or a managed component.
Exact availability, contents, selection UI, and compatibility remain pending and may differ by Preview build. Do not infer public publication or deployment availability from these labels.
Before choosing
When a candidate installer is supplied with your Preview build, read its accompanying guidance, preserve important configuration and data, and review Update Policy and Downgrade and Recovery before changing modes.
